Gracious Roses is a PR Consultancy committed to graciously nurturing businesses to roses. Our mission is mainly to nurture three categories of groups: Small & medium sized businesses, start-ups and individuals. Small & medium sized businesses:- We believe in Michael Gerber's words that 'a small business built rightly can grow 10,000 times its current size'. We are committed to nurturing small businesses to grow through our business consulting services. Here, we listen to the client to understand their vision upon which we develop an effective business strategy. As Gerber also notes ‘a small business must manifest the higher purpose upon which it was seeded, the vision it was meant to exemplify and the mission it was intended to fulfill. As we have seen globally, the businesses that have grown over 10,000 times their original size clearly demonstrate a higher purpose (e.g. Apple, Amazon, Zaples, Facebook, Google). When a business clearly understands and articulates its ‘Why’, it is bound to build strong services and products and excel (Simon Sinek). This ‘Why’ is their vision – the reason the business exists. It is by developing a business strategy upon this ‘Why’ that any business will succeed. Our Strategic plans, branding and marketing strategies are therefore developed upon the ‘Why’ of the business. So far, we have seen saccos, hotels and other small companies fall because the founder didn’t clearly articulate his Why or along the way, the Why was forgotten, vision lost and hence mission not achieved. Startups:- As Vumbi Zembeayo (South African entrepreneur) notes in his TED talk, majority of Africans are building small unsustainable businesses. He gives an example where the baker makes the cakes, delivers the same to customers, later goes collecting payment and if the customer fails to pay, the baker gives him an attitude adjustment clap. Vumbi notes that these businesses must make money each month if they have to pay bills. He notes that this mentality needs to change; we need to create self-sustaining businesses that can work without us in the business. As Gerber notes ‘a small business is an economic entity driving an economic reality, creating an economic certainty for communities in which it thrives. However, this will only become true if as he notes the business is well systemized. Our goal in Gracious Roses is to nurture businesses to be well systemized so that they are self-sustaining. Another area where majority of startups go wrong is in marketing. Many fail or are doomed to remain small and struggling because they view marketing as an expense instead of an investment. Most small businesses tailor their marketing to compete with others ignorantly assuming it’s a battle of products and services. I have seen a 5 star hotel with quite high accommodation rates that can only attract tourists and high profile people ignore totally online visibility (doesn’t have a website or effective social media presence). As you can bet, the hotel is struggling to break even. Individuals:- At Gracious Roses, we believe each individual came to this world equipped for success. Sadly, many of us daily face life changing situations that affect us differently. While some emerge strong from setbacks, majority fail. There are two types of motivation: internal (where individuals motivate self) and external (where individuals are motivated by external factors such as other people). Whereas we have no control over other people’s actions, we have 100% control over my selves. This means that we can have the ability to motivate ourselves despite the situation in the world. Example:- A girl is raped at a tender age. As a result, she comes to distrust people and hate men. She cannot move over the pain and as a result she is forever trapped. Another girl goes through such ordeal. The pain is unbearable and for months (or even years) she is depressed. She then decides to have control over her life. She channels her pain to comforting victims of rape and helping others overcome the pain. The two girls went through a devastating event but chose to react differently. One realized she cannot change what happened but can change her attitude towards it. It was believed that individuals were permanently structured their childhood events. Fortunately, science is proving we have the ability to change our lives at any given age, as long as we are clearly determined to do so. TED talk Our empowerment programs (#Teambestlivingever, #Teamachievers, #Teamgraciousroses) are based on the concept that we have this ability and should use it to enjoy the best life ever.
