Project made for UCOOK in the Food industry for a B2C audience in 2020.THE BRAND AND THE CHALLENGE As the world's population was plunged into lockdown because of the coronavirus outbreak, many restaurants and other areas of the hospitality industry were forced to effectively shut for business. Closures of these businesses caused a ripple effect in related industries and businesses leaving small-scale farmers and food producers financially stranded and battling to make ends meet. Our client, meal-kit delivery market leader, UCOOK, rose to the occasion and decided to launch corporate social responsibility initiatives with the aim to assist in providing a lifeline for small farms, restaurants, and businesses to ensure their survival.THE BRIEF & THE STRATEGYThe PR brief was to launch and help bring awareness to the Food Fund, the Market Box as well as the Save the Restaurant campaign. We pressed play for the first campaign in April 2020 where our tactics included writing and distributing press releases to local and national media, using Instagram influencers as a channel to drive sales, arranging media invitations and media drops, and proactively setting up radio and TV interviews. The duration of these campaigns combined was a four-month period. During this time, Republic PR also created and implemented a COVID-19 response and crisis management plan.THE RESULTSThe campaigns exceeded expectations and crossed South African borders into 5 other African countries. Through the use of PR, UCOOK received tangible business and funding from new and existing customers directly through articles, interviews and other publicity generated through our PR efforts. Over the four-month period of the campaign, we achieved more than 230 mentions in the media, across print, online and broadcast. We also managed to reach millions of people and also accomplished the mandate of UCOOK which was to help rescue businesses in need. UCOOK obtained over R100 Million through the Food Fund campaign, UCOOK hosted 6 live cook-along sessions on multiple streaming channels each week and achieved just over 18 000 viewers also raising more than R360 000 in consumer voluntary donations and UCOOK’s contribution combined.
